Take Back Your Creative Freedom!

Oh hello blank page. So nice to see you again!

It’s amazing how open you are, how you give me the freedom to play and dance with words. You let me do whatever I want and yet so often, I feel intimidated by you. As if there’s a right way to fill you up and a wrong way.

I suppose some choices might feel better than others.

Like the word “LOVE”. Mmmmm. That’s a great one. It feels good to type it. L-O-V-E. Just looking at it feels good and saying it feels even better. Say it with me: “Looooooove”.

I’m learning to love the blank page and the opportunity that it presents to express, without any limitations but the ones I impose on myself. There’s no right or wrong when it comes to creating and the more we embrace that, the more we can enjoy and express with the true spirit of freedom.

Lately, I’ve been noticing when I come to write that I have many preconceived notions of how “powerful” it has to be, how “articulate” it has to be, how “long” it has to be or how __________ it has to be. All of these constraints immediately impose themselves on the flow of my ideas and take me out of the space of being able to create freely, and to simply express an emotion or a message.

In the spirit of reclaiming that freedom, I’ve written a post that looks and feels and unfolds differently than anything else I’ve written before. It felt like a bit of a risk and a was a little uncomfortable at first, but there’s also a feeling of excitement and liberation that followed. For many of us, exercising creative freedom is a muscle we haven’t used in a long time and the more we practice it, the easier it becomes.

In keeping with that spirit, I’m going to end this blog by writing you a poem RIGHT NOW. Just for FUN 😉

This is a poem just for fun
I’m writing it for you
With a light heart full of love
So you can feel good too.

This is a thought about freedom
Out of nowhere, it came through
To remind us that we’re the only ones
Who get to say what we can’t do.

So how about we just let go
And let ourselves express?
Step outside of what we know
Even if we make a mess!

Much love,

Chris
